The mule,
Blessed fool.
Gleaming hoofs
Tred in stool.

Now the pig, repugnant but blessed.
Mouths hooked, obsessed, puckered and flexed.
An open palm, force-fed by the teet.
The sheen from teeth, a swine's dirty deed.

The pig, its trough, a dirty mouth belly up.
A tongue, a vessel calling for its lifeblood.
A rat, it moans, begging for sustenance.
The mule composed, yet dragged down by the load.
